daily journal

Monday 16 march 2009

this is my first journal entry and I am not so sure what I should write about. This morning we all played a game of soccer at 7:00 am and it was really cool. today I was leader and that means that I have a responsibility to make sure that things are okay and that every thing is organised. after soccer all the wardlis had breakfast and my breakfast consisted of a bowl of cornflakes. after breakfast we all met in the classroom and discussed what was going to happen today. Today the plan was that wardlis 2 and 3 were going snorkeling before lunch at Hardwicke bay, and wardlis 4 and 5 helped out with pulling out weeds and the local community centre which was also near Hardwicke bay. After lunch the two groups swapped. I'm in wardli 5 which meant that I was going to help out and the community centre and then I would go snorkeling. At lunch time everyone gathered at the community centre where the people who worked there had prepared us some lunch. I had about 4 sausage rolls with sauce and a couple glasses of water. once lunch had finished we all go a bowl of ice cream and then we went out and went snorkeling. During the snorkeling we saw a couple of stingrays and some crabs but that was about it. Once we got back we had free time and I helped out by cleaning the wet suits and gear from the snorkeling. after free time wee had chill out time which is where we got to a specific place with our number on it ( I'm number 7) with a roll mat and read a book for about and hour. after we had sat there for an hour we went back to our wardlis and prepared dinner. tonight we had a barbecue which consisted of some sausages on bread with sauce and some mash potatoes. after dinner we cleaned up and then we headed over to the classroom where we started to wright our blogs which is what I'm doing now. I have to finish now so good bye and that was my day on Monday 16 march 2009.

Tuesday 17 march 2009

today when we woke up we went for a 5.5 km run and I had improved my time by all most 15 minutes faster than my previous time. after the run we had to do some push ups and some sit ups and then we went and had breakfast. after breakfast we all met at the classroom and got told what we were going to do today. Wardlis 2 and 3 were going to help out with some mentally disabled people while wardlis 4 and 5 went on a history tour. during the history tour I learnt about trees, a ghost town and some ship wreaks. If you want to know more look at my blog about history tour 1. after the history tour we came back and had free time and then chill out time. after that we went back to our wardlis and had dinner. tonight dinner was curry and rice. It was really nice. after dinner we went to the classroom and then we went to bed. unfortunately I am sleeping out tonight and now I have to go. bye.

Wednesday 18 march 2009

last night I was sleeping out and it was cool. I saw a rabbit. This morning when I woke up I got changed and then went down to the shed to get ready for power training. It involved doing a 1 km run along a sand track and then doing some sprints up and back around 10 times on the beach. the second set of sprints involved doing push ups. after the sprints were over a small group of people wand I were let off earlier than everyone else and jogged back to camp for breakfast. after breakfast we all met up at the classroom and then we went off with our groups for today's activities. The first half of the day involved reef watch and snorkeling and then the second half of the day was 2 hours of blog writing which is what I am doing now.

Thursday 19 march 2009

today we did a 9.2 km run but if you weren't that good at running you could do a 6 km run along the sand and I did the latter. after the run (I didn't time myself) I headed of for breakfast and then off to the classroom. After I left the classroom we all got an early free time because the schedule had changed for the day. after free time we had lunch and then we went shopping again and I almost missed the bus. When we went shopping my wardli spent $73 and the last time we went shopping my wardli spent $414. After shopping we went to pick up the extra bread and milk that had been ordered because lots of people were running very low. Once we got back we had some more free time and then we had chill out time which is where you read a book for an our. After chill out time we had dinner which was pork chops and home made potato chips on the BBQ, it was delicious.after dinner we all met up at the classroom as usual and then we started writing our blogs which is what I'm doing now.

Sunday 22 march 2009

I haven't done a journal entry in a few days and that is because I have not had the chance and time to do so. Today we went for a 3.4 km run and I improved heaps since my last 3.4 km run and I am very proud of myself for doing so. After the run we had to do 100 push ups and 100 sit ups and I did 80 of each and I am proud of that too. After that we went to the classroom and worked on our blogs all day. After dinner we came back to the classroom and watched a movie called 'crime spree' and it was really cool.

Tuesday 24 March 2009

This morning we did a power training and it was the same thing as last time and then we jogged back in small groups like last time. after the training we had breakfast which was cornflakes again. After breakfast we went to the classroom and then my wardli went and built a wall outside Dales' house. after the wall building we had lunch and then we went sea kayaking and it was really cool. then we had dinner which was schnitzel and then we came to the classroom to do our blogs.

novel

The novel that I have read was 'The Escape' in the 'Henderson's Boys' series by Robert Muchamore and I have finished reading it. The reason that I was reading this book was because my mum sent it to me and it was a very interesting read.

The story takes place in the summer of 1940 and Hitler's army is advancing towards France.
Main Characters
  • Charles Henderson
  • Marc Kligour (12)
  • Rosie Clarke (13)
  • Paul Clarke (11)

The influences of the main characters was that there was a war on and that the Nazis were advancing through France. Marc is trying to get to Beauvais and gets caught up in everything when he hides in Henderson's house and gets found by the Gestapo (Hitlers secret police). Marc is found by the gestapo in Henderson's house and has his tooth pulled out and passes out and then wakes to find Henderson there. Henderson then helps Marc and they become good friends. Paul and Rosie are trying to find Henderson by travelling trough France to get some important blueprints for a radio to Henderson. When their father dies they are left alone and they then got to a church and get reunited with a small boy called Hug aged four. They then travel to Tours and stay with a small family. They get a message from Henderson saying that a German officer pretending to be him will be coming and they should be prepared. They shoot the officer but Hugo gets shot by the officer just before he dies and then Hugo dies as well. After Hugo dies they meet Henderson and then plan to go to Britain.

I think that this book should be made into a film but the part of the plot that I think should be removed is the part where they meet Hugo because it is very sad when Hugo dies.

fitness program

Our fitness program is basically waking up at 7:00 am and then doing either a 3.4 km run, a 5.5 km run, a 9.2 km run or a 11 km run. We also do some power training or play a game.

The first run which was on Saturday 14 March 2009 was a 3.4 km run and we had to run from the shed on camp to the steps that lead on to the road which then went on to the jetty and then from the steps we ran back. On this first run we had to jog that distance on o footpath and it started at 7:00 am on the dot and when it turned 7:00 we would all run off down the path. These runs are hard and as well as it being very early it was also cold and you were tired. On the first run I got a time of something because I cant access my time at the moment. After the runs we would list our times and then head off for breakfast.

On Sunday 15 March 2009 we did a 5.5 km run which went along the same path as the 3.4 km run but when you got to the stairs you kept going on to the jetty that was further up the road and then you would run back. This run was harder because it was longer and there was a big hill that you had to run up on the way there and on the way back. Once you got back to the stairs you ran the same way back to the shed then you would record your time and head off for breakfast. On this 5.5 km run I got a time of 45.40 minutes and that meant that I came almost last.

On Monday 16 March 2009 instead of doing a run we played a modified game of soccer. the rules were basically the same only to score points every single player of both teams had to be in the forward half. So if you scored a goal and 2 of the oppositions players weren't in the forward half you would get two points. And if you scored another goal and 2 of your players weren't in the forward half the other team would get 2 points. We played this game for the same time that we did the runs which were around 45 minutes. Once the game had finished we went off for breakfast.

On Tuesday 17 March 2009 we did another 5.5 km run which was the same as the other 5.5 km run. the only thing that had changed was the times of people. most people had improve while some had stayed the same and I think that one person got slower than their previous time. I had improved on my time by almost 15 minutes and I am very proud of that. Mr Mkinnon had also gotten here and did the run with us. He didn't look tired at all and was making faces at people. After everyone had finished instead of heading off for breakfast we all got a roll mat and did push ups and sit ups. My final time was 31.30 minutes. After the push ups and sit ups we then headed off for breakfast.

On Wednesday 18 March 2009 we didn't do a run instead we did power training. Power training involves doing a 1 km run down a sand track down to Flaherty's beach and doing sprints on the sand. The first set of sprints were running back and forth over a 10 m distance and touching a line as you turned. This was very tiring and you did them in fours so there would be 4 people running back and forth on the sand. The second set of sprints were over a 5 m distance and at one end when you touched the line you had to get down and to 10 push ups on the sand but this only happened on one line. After the second set a small group of about 6 or 7 people were allowed to go back early. I was part of that group and we had to jog all the way back along the sand track to the shed and only then could we have breakfast. Dale said that we had to jog back as a group which meant that we had to stay together and no running off.
